The Football Blog Fantasy League Update – Gameweek 6
After a weekend of Premier League action which again delivered controversy and excitement, things are starting to get interesting at the top of The Football Blog’s fantasy league. The leader remains the same, but the competition is breathing down his neck after a gameweek of contrasting fortunes.

Will Taylor’s Sheikh Up brought home a very disappointing 46 points in what was generally a high scoring week for the chasing pack. The Yellow Bentines and Womchester United both scored 68 points and now sit just 5 and 10 points respectively behind Sheikh Up.
Elsewhere, there were strong weeks for SportGuru and Lord Boblington, who both scored in excess of 70 points and have consolidated their position in the top ten. In contrast, Melvin’s Marauders were another team who had an off week, scoring just 40 points and slipping to seventh place in the process.
Managers would not have been disappointed by their most expensive and high profile players this gameweek. In midfield, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard both failed to score but still delivered 6 and 7 points respectively by virtue of their assists, whilst Dirk Kuyt and Cesc Fabregas both got on the scoresheet to deliver some valuable points for their managers.
Up front, the most expensive trio of Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres all scored, twice in the case of Torres, and cemented their places as the top three point scoring forwards. Darren Bent continues to look like excellent value at 7.2 million, again netting in Sunderland’s 1-3 defeat to Burnley.
Elsewhere, those who had taken the calcualted risk of including any of Thomas Vermaelen, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher, James Milner or Craig Bellamy in their side would have been handsomely rewarded. The 0.6% of fantasy managers who selected Burnley’s David Nugent will also be feeling particularly pleased with themselves after the striker scored 11 points.
So plenty to think about heading into gameweek 7. Drogba looks to be one of the weekend’s injury victims, and with the potential of more following the mid-week Carling Cup fixtures, managers may be forced to shuffle the pack before next weekend. The form of some players may dictate that to be the case anyway.
