The Football Blog Fantasy League Update – Gameweek 5
Another weekend of high drama in the Premier League has left fantasy managers with plenty to contemplate. Whilst Manchester City’s victory over Arsenal has lead many to suggest the top four of the Premier League may be changing, one thing that remains exactly the same is the leader of The Football Blog’s fantasy league.

Will Taylor opened the gap on his nearest rival with his ‘Sheikh Up’ team netting 60 points this gameweek. His decision to transfer in Dirk Kuyt paid dividends, but once again it was Glen Johnson who brought him the largest points haul following a clean sheet and an assist. The Liverpool right back is starting to look like a must-have defender.
Elsewhere, managers will be rapidly losing faith with Everton players as they threw away a lead to lose 1-2 to Fulham at Craven Cottage. Those that chose to go with one of Aston Villa’s new central defensive duo will have been rewarded however, with Richard Dunne and James Collins picking up 9 and 8 points respectively.
The player of the weekend was undoutedly Yossi Benayoun, whose haul of 24 points was enough to make him the third highest scoring midfielder in the game, behind the usual leading duo of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard. Up front, Darren Bent enhanced his England credentials with two goals which meant he offered the best return for a forward with 10 points.
So plenty to think about ahead of the next gameweek as the season starts to take shape. The usual players are starting to creep to the top of the point scoring tables but there are also some less familiar names who will keep you in the hunt. Who will you be turning to to win you the points to pull you up the leaderboard? And who will you be looking to get rid of as soon as possible? As ever, let us know your thoughts.

Glen Johnson is a must-have, and you should get in quickly before his price rises too high. I’ve had a minor reshuffle to bring him in, dropping Kuyt to free up the budget.
Into the top 10 now, my team is only going one way for the rest of the season…!
