If you look across to the left (do it now before the weekend!), you’ll see my name sitting proudly in second place in The Football Blog’s prediction league on SportGuru.
I know that it’s early days, it’s a ‘long old season’ and a ‘marathon not a sprint’ yada yada, but that doesn’t mean I can’t gloat a little, and to help everyone out because they clearly need it, I thought I’d share my predictions for the weekend.
The first five games to predict appear to be relatively clear cut, with an odds-on favourite in each fixture. I’m slightly concerned at picking four away wins out of those five, but I can’t see Blackpool repeating their feats of last week, whilst Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea and Villa ought to be too good for their lower league opposition.
The Fulham v Man Utd fixture is a tricky one though, given that the Reds don’t have the greatest record at Craven Cottage and their main strike threat is looking somewhat out of touch. I fancy Fulham to hold them to a draw this weekend, although I can also see them sneaking all three points. 87% of the SportGuru community have backed a United victory, so I’ll have my fingers crossed that I can score some points here.
Any game involving the new-look Man City is tough to call at this stage of the season, but neither side did much to convince me last weekend that they can overcome the other. The draw seems to be the favoured option on SportGuru, with just over 50% of players opting for the stalemate.
What do you think? Will my lofty position near the top of the table be shortlived?
Arsenal v Blackpool: Arsenal 2 – 0
Everton v Wolverhampton: Everton 2 – 1
Stoke City v Tottenham: Tottenham 2 – 1
Wigan v Chelsea: Chelsea 2 – 0
Newcastle v Aston Villa: Aston Villa 2 – 1
Fulham v Man. United: Draw 1 – 1
Man. City v Liverpool: Draw 1 – 1
