
Highly-rated Manchester City defender Nedum Onuhoa is considering switching his international allegiance from England to Nigeria in a bid to appear at the forthcoming World Cup. Onuhoa has already appeared for England Under-21s however he was born and raised in Africa until the age of seven.

News of a fresh bid for stricken League One club Stockport County has filtered through, raising hopes of survival. The football community can only hope that they don’t suffer the same fate as that of the likes of Chester City or Farsley Celtic who cease to exist under those guises. To simply have the facility of eleven players, a modest stadium, a pitch and a ball might even be considered a luxury should County fans’ worst fears be confirmed. Never mind mouth-watering ties in the finest football cathedrals of Europe this spring. Many fans will be satisfied just to have these pre-requisites as they fight to stay in business.

The dismissal of Tony Mowbray as Celtic manager last week doesn’t just raise questions about the troubles affecting the green and white side of Glasgow. Despite their success this season, bitter rivals Rangers will be all too aware of the pitfalls that lie in wait. No doubt their fans are ecstatic as their side look certain to claim the Scottish Premier League title for the second year in a row. Their team have problems of their own, however, with the club up for sale and the perilous state of football’s finances casting its own dark shadow over the Scottish game.
